In this day in age in our scattered country’s history, how special it is to have a wedding where you put your gown on in your mom’s bedroom, surrounded by family photos and memories from your childhood. Where your favorite family dog (the one that was nearly eaten by a python the week before) stops by for some photos – and to hang your dress next to the mobile butterflies in your childhood bedroom. Christy and Daryl’s charming garden wedding at Wild Geese captured all the warmth and delight a garden wedding should be. Roses for Africa, exquisite food, wonderful attention to detail, tables bursting with the color of cheerful summer florals – and the merriest group of people all gathered to share in the beginning of Christy and Daryl’s life together. Even though it was April with the chance of rain still around, these two opted for an outside afternoon reception which was really gorgeous. And then the rain came 😉 But nothing could dampen this wedding party’s spirits and most of the afternoon had already happened outside anyway. I snuck Daryl and Christy away for a hasty impromptu photo session before the heavens really opened – and wow these two were so super. We only had ten minutes but it was enough – I ran around photographing them like a mad thing while they did first dance amidst a backdrop of crazy blue & black skies and light rain falling. My approach to the couple shoot on a wedding day is always that the real point of it is to have a break from the craziness of the day with your new spouse, to stop and enjoy being away, to be quiet and mindful together – the photos should merely be a bonus. So I was so happy that Christy and Daryl really enjoyed themselves, giving over to that beautiful time in a freshly mowed field, with the wind in their hair and a storm at their backs.
I’ve waffled enough – thank you to Daryl and Christy for “coming to the party”, I’ll let the photos tell a little part of the story of their day.
